The elephants are not happy – the hippos have come to share the river because theirs has dried up. When they complain to Elmer that the river is over-crowded, everyone’s favourite patchwork elephant sets off to see if he can find a solution.
If you don’t know Elmer where have you been? He’s lovely. And pretty much always right, though he’s a bit of a joker and occasionally things get out of hand. Not in this story though. Straightforward environmental disaster with a bit of added empathy and some muscle power. Elmer saves the day, while showing the elephants that thinking of others is a good thing.
Not the best Elmer book I’ve come across, I much prefer the one where he blows away. Smallest is less discriminating though, and was just happy to see the elephants.
It’s got: patchwork elephants
It’s not: as good as Elmer and the wind.
