This is kind of a meta book – a book about books. The very first time I read it I didn’t like it much as I couldn’t get the pacing right, but it absolutely fascinates the small children, particularly the very first page which has a line to trace with your finger. I have to trace it every time we read it, and so do they, so it takes quite a while.

Some of the colouring is quite challenging to the senses – it’s possible I’m over sensitive of course, but we keep on picking it up, and there’s lots to look at around the main character reading her way through the story of her reading. And the fact that it never stops? You can imagine that at bedtime a never ending story is extremely attractive.

Lots to discuss here for slightly older children I suspect, and even for adults, on the nature of stories, and stories about stories. Well worth a look.
