Charlie and Lola: We honestly can look after your dog.

lola honestly can look after your dogI know this might be a slightly heretical thing to say, but I’m not a Charlie and Lola fan. I don’t like the way the she talks, or the way she manipulates Charlie, or even the physical way the books are laid out. I don’t have any problems with reading, but I know lots of people do, and I imagine these books are quite difficult to approach in the way that the words change size and layout as the stories go.

Charlie And Lola: We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog involves Lola, as you might expect, not looking after a dog. What can I say? Smallest likes it. I think she might slightly identify with Lola, and I think that might be part of why I get told things like “I can’t learn anything without going to school”. (You can, and you will, what with the whole being home educated. But your siblings and your friends obviously count for nothing against a book or a tv program, right? Sigh.)

On the plus side, these books do invite children to imagine and be creative, which has got to be a good thing, right?
