Before I get into reviewing When Willy Went To The Wedding I should confess to being a long time Judith Kerr fan. I adore her gentle stories, the gorgeous pictures, that are so distinctive. And I particularly like her animals, who behave as animals do. So in this book, Willy has lots of pets. He also has a grown up sister who is getting married. He’s advised against taking pets to the wedding, so he doesn’t take many…
You can imagine how it goes from there really. Some extra pets follow along and join in and there are all sorts of disasters along the way. I love that there’s a Mog look alike cat in the story, complete with kittens, and it behaves in a very Mog like way. I did feel a little sorry for the grown up sister, who doesn’t seem to get much of a say about anything and just has to cope with her big day being infested with all sorts of animals. But (nearly) everybody seems happy at the end, so I guess it doesn’t matter too much. (I also wondered how old the book is, the camera in use looks a bit dated. Will have to check it out.)
It’s got:a positive menagerie of animals including a cat that looks like Mog.
It’s not: a Mog book, sadly.
