Slinky Malinki is from Lynley Dodd of Hairy Maclairy fame. And this is the same sort of thing – an animal, and a rhyme.
Sounds so simple. Is actually so wonderful. The rhymes are not at all contrived, but keep you reading along at a good pace, although there’s plenty of room for suspense as you build up to the moment of denouement. Slinky Malinki, a lovely cheerful and fun cat in the daytime, has a bizarre second personality, as a thief! In the night time he’s out there, stealing sausages, knitting, milk bottles?? and glue. It’s the glue that’s his downfall as he ends up tangled in the knitting, tripping over the bottles and with glue on his face.
Sorry for the spoilers, but trust me, it’s still worth reading. All of these are. And you may find yourself reading it more than once. These are books that you can read over and over, without wearing them out. Which helps, if you’ve small children to read bedtime stories too.
It’s got: rhymes and a thieving cat
It’s not: T S Eliot.
